Reading isn’t hard, but we’ve made reading clothing labels easy!
The Washing Symbol
When are the symbols on clothing labels most important? When washing! The washing symbol looks like a tub full of water, and displays the temperature you should wash the article of clothing at or below.
The symbol could also show a hand for hand washing, or an “X” through the tub to show it shouldn’t be washed. Also important: A full circle means that item is dry clean only. Make sure not to mess that one up!
The Drying Symbol
Time to take a look at drying. Instead of a tub, the drying symbol is a square with a circle on it. If there is one dot in the square, the clothing should be dried on low temperature tumble dry. Two dots means normal tumble drying is fine, and an “x” through the square means it can’t be tumble dried at all.
The Bleaching Symbol
We’ve gone through circle and squares, now it’s time to take a look at triangles -- or in this case what is otherwise known as the bleaching symbol. If the clothing label has a blank triangle on it, it’s OK for bleach and non-chlorine bleach. Two stripes in the triangle mean to use non-chlorine bleach, and an “x” through the triangle means … you’ve probably guessed it by now, not to bleach it.
The Iron Symbol
We’re all done with shapes for the moment -- and we’re pretty sure you can tell that the iron shaped symbol is giving you guidance on how your clothing can handle ironing.
The dots are the secret to this one -- one dot means to only iron at low temperature, two dots means medium, and three dots means high. And a giant “x”? Don’t iron any clothes with that label.
