Top Load and Front Load Washers

Laundry day comes but once (or twice, or three times) a week. Make sure you treat your fabrics the way they were meant to be treated with a quality washer.

Not sure what kind of washer to buy? Not to worry, we’re here to help. Let’s talk about the different types of washing machines and the benefits each brings to your home.

First, think about your needs before making a purchase—even before heading to the store to look at models.

Do you need a large capacity washer? Do you want one that’s energy-efficient? How much space do you have for a washer? Do you just need a washer, or would a laundry pair or stackable unit be your best bet?

Ask these questions and more before you start the buying process.

Top Load Washer

Top load washers are the most common type of washing machine. Most use an agitator and water to wash your fabrics. If you don’t want to bend over to get your clothes out of the washer, a top load is the way to go. Keep in mind, with a top-load washer, you’ll need to measure the space above where you want the unit to go. The door swings up, so no cabinets or shelves should be in the way.

Front Load Washer

Front load washers take the agitator out of the mix by replacing it with an impeller, and they use significantly less water during the washing process. Instead of relying on an agitator, these washers use an impeller and gravity to tumble your fabrics against each other to remove stains. While you will need to bend over a little bit more to retrieve your clothes, you can add a pedestal to gain some height and comfort.
