10 Awesome Laundry Hacks for College Students

by Willie Clark

Don’t go back to school without these helpful laundry hacks!

1. Pods Are The Future

Pods. Storage pods. And now laundry pods. Pods have always been the future no matter what the industry is, and laundry pods can make your washing easier than ever. Be smart -- stick with pods.

2. Beat the Rush

No, we aren’t talking about the band -- we’re talking about the laundry hour rush. You know what’s worse than 150 freshmen all trying to do their laundry at the same time? Nothing. Nothing’s worse.

Try to find your own time to do laundry -- and save yourself the fight and hassle over the dryers, as well.

3. Coordinate Those Colors

We know, we’ve been there -- separating out your laundry is a pain, especially when you have three tests, two labs, and an essay all due at the same time tomorrow morning.

Treat your clothes right, though. You may regret a lot of things about your college experience, but don’t regret ruining your clothes.

4. Don’t Go Overboard

Yes, yes, you are spending all night cramming for Chemistry 101, but that doesn’t mean you should take the same approach to your laundry. Don’t wait and do three months of laundry at the same time and try to cram them all into one load.

5. Basket Weaving 101

While the floor around you may look like a good option, you really should invest in a laundry bag or basket. Not only will this keep your room cleaner, but it will also make doing laundry easier when it comes time.

6. Cold as Ice

This may be the first time in your life you’ve ever had to mess with a laundry machine, and guess what, they have multiple buttons!

Your best bet is to stick with using the cold setting, unless you know otherwise. But cold water will be the safest option for most clothes.

7. Don’t Forget a Timer

There’s a lot of stuff to remember in college, and adding laundry to that list can be a lot. Set a timer on your phone to remind you when it’s time to switch loads, that way you won’t forget as you fall asleep watching Netflix.

8. Ugh, Carry Cash

You grew up with laundry being free, but here’s one life lesson that college is going to ingrain into you -- nothing in life is free. Especially laundry.

Most people don’t carry cash around these days, but if you need quarters or money on your student card for your laundry, you’ll want to make you’re always be prepared.

 9. Stain Safety

Look -- stains happen. You are going to run into stains of all sorts in college, and you might not be able to run to the washer right away.

That’s what stain remover pens are for. Keep one close by at all times, and you’ll be ready for anything. Except calculus.

10. Pick Those Pockets

Last but not least, always check all of your pockets before throwing something in the wash. You’ll thank us later.

Laundry can be a real pain, but you are in luck -- these tips are going to make you top of the class! And when you do graduate and are looking for your own washer, remember who was there to help you through your college days! It was us.
