Here is Some Inspiration for Your Media Room [Checklist]

by Pam Silvia

If you’ve got a spare room in the house, whether it’s the basement or a makeshift guest room, we can’t think of a better opportunity for having a fully furnished media room.

Some may call it a home theater, or an entertainment room, or a rumpus room, or sports den, or even a “man cave”—whatever your flavor is, at Spencer’s TV & Appliance, we’ve got the ingredients you need to cook up the living space of your dreams.

To get you inspired, we created a checklist of must-have products and media room ideas. Check them out below!

1. 4K UHD TV

Let’s start with the TV. With 4K UHD resolution becoming the household standard in recent years, you can opt for virtually any screen size, so long as there are three to seven feet of viewing distance between your seating and your TV set. Lucky for us, 4K UHD resolution enables you to sit closer to benefit from the lifelike picture quality.

We know having a media room goes deeper than just being able to relax in another corner of the house. We get to really break them in when we do more. That said, here are some of our top-rated TV recommendations for hobbyists everywhere:

  • If you’re a gamer, reap the benefits of a Samsung Class Q80T QLED 4K UHD HDR Smart TV (QN65Q80TAFXZA and QN75Q80TAFXZA) with a specialized video game mode that automatically improves motion clarity and reduces blur in fast-moving scenes
  • If you never miss a sports game, you’ll enjoy the wide viewing angles and heightened contrast of the LG CX Class 4K Smart OLED TV (OLED55CXPUA, OLED65CXPUA, and OLED77CXPUA), which also lets you set up reminders and score notifications for games with Sports Alert.
  • If you call yourself a movie buff, bring the cinematic experience to your media room with a Samsung Class Q60T QLED 4K UHD HDR Smart TV (QN43Q60TAFXZA, QN50Q60TAFXZA, QN55Q60TAFXZA, QN65Q60TAFXZA, and QN75Q60TAFXZA) that automatically adjusts the color tone to fit the mood of your content.

2. Audio System

No media room is complete without surround sound. For an elevated home theater setup, industry experts recommend investing in a 5.1 wireless speaker set (for starters) with a soundbar, two rear speakers, and a subwoofer.

The soundbar, or center speaker, produces most of the dialogue in the content you watch and is usually positioned below the TV, either on a stand or mounted on the wall.

By contrast, rear surround speakers produce a full range of frequency and are tuned to a higher amperage, which makes for an immersive experience with sound effects and a music score you can not only hear but feel. True to their name, these speakers are preferably delegated to the back of the room.

For well-rounded, theater-quality sound, subwoofers add an extra “oomph” so that you can really appreciate your action movies and sports games in all their thunderous glory.

With zero vibration and voice control options, a Sonos soundbar setup does all of this and more.

3. Media Furniture

You don’t have to settle for any old living room entertainment center. Given that a media room is a symbol of luxury, we invite you to indulge your keen eye for interior design when you shop for your furnishings.

When it comes to entertainment room furniture, there are many options to choose from, whether you prefer the look of a standard TV stand with minimal shelving or a tall entertainment center with generous storage options for your devices.

If you’ve got a wall-mounted TV but still want concealed storage for your Blu-ray collection and video games, a media chest will fulfill this desire. Alternatively, a media console is a great option if you prefer to display your collection, along with knickknacks, picture frames, and gaming systems, thanks to windowed cabinets or shelves.

4. Home Theater Seating

Depending on the size of your media room, you can outfit your space with a few chairs or ample seating. Leather recliners have become a standard option for most rooms, regardless of their dimensions—with some loveseats even offering a console to hold your beverages.

If you want to foster a more modern aesthetic, round swivel chairs, sofa futons, and two- to five-piece sectionals are at your service. And for added comfort, beanbags and floor pillows bring forth memories of childhood slumber parties.

5. Gallery Wall

Along the same lines of bringing a modern feel to your media room, we can’t emphasize the impact of wall art. A gallery wall with an variety of prints, banners, paintings, memorabilia, and family photos not only makes your blank walls more interesting, but it can personalize your space, making you feel at ease as soon as you enter.

If you feel inclined, you can even hang framed movie posters representing each family member’s favorite flicks to make your media room feel more like a movie theater.

6. Compact Refrigeration

Speaking of movie theaters, you can’t forget the concessions! Your media chest or console can certainly work to store your bags of chips, gummy candy, and other pantry snacks, but what about your drinks?

A mini fridge or beverage center can hold all of your favorite refreshments so that whenever game day arrives, you can crack open a cold one. Or whenever you’re hosting a movie night, you can whip out your artisanal sodas for guests.

On top of keeping your drinks perfectly chilled, the Frigidaire Gallery 5.3 Cu. Ft. Stainless Steel Built In Beverage Center (FGBC5334VS) allows you to showcase your assortment with snazzy LED-illuminated shelves. How’s that for “host with the most”?

Bonus: Tabletop Games

For optimal fun, we recommend storing a few board games and card sets in your media room. You never know when the mood strikes for some lighthearted amusement!

You can even go big with a billiards set, a foosball table, or an arcade machine or two in your setup. With rainy days on the horizon this season, you just never know when you’ll need to devise a Plan B for fun.
